Nursing Home Administrator – Responsibilities:
Planning Function: Work with the facility management staff and consultants in planning all aspects of facility operations, including setting priorities and job assignments. Monitor each department’s activities, communicate policies, evaluate performance, provide feedback, and assist, coach, and discipline as needed
Continuous Quality Improvement Function: Conduct regular rounds to monitor delivery of nursing care, operation of support departments, cleanliness and appearance of facility, morale of staff and to ensure residents’ needs are being addressed in a proactive manner
Teamwork Function: Ensure consultants and other support resources are appropriately utilized and a high level of interdepartmental teamwork is maintained
Environmental Function: Ensure the building and grounds are properly maintained and that equipment and work areas are clean, safe and orderly and any hazardous conditions are addressed; ensure Universal precautions and infection control, isolation, fire, safety and sanitation practices and procedures are followed
Regulatory Compliance Function: Maintain a working knowledge of and ensure compliance with all governmental regulations
Associate Relations Function: Monitor associate relations practices of key staff to ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies and to ensure practices that maintain high morale and staff retention to include; effective communication, prompt problem resolution, positive supervisory practices and maintaining a positive work environment. Manage turnover and ensure current and future staffing through development of recruiting sources and through appropriate selection, orientation, training and staff education
Budgetary Function: Maintain facility budgets and business practices to include labor costs, payables, and receivables. Monitor business activities to ensure procedures and standards are followed. Ensure appropriate handling of funds and ensure that sound credible business practices are followed at all times
Marketing Function: Develop and implement a marketing strategy for the facility that reflects service opportunities, competition, potential market area changes and which maximizes census, payor mix and ancillary revenues. Lead and monitor key staff and facility staff to play an active role in carrying out the market plan
Public Relations Function: Develop positive relationships on behalf of the company with Government Regulators, families, area Health Care Community and the Community at large.
Educational Function: Supervise, conduct and participate in department and facility education activities and staff meetings. Maintain professional competence through participation in continuing education programs, seminars and training programs
Residents’ Rights Function: Understand, comply with and promote rules regarding residents’ rights
Nursing Home Administrator – Qualifications:
MUST be a licensed Nursing Home Administrator
Completion of post-secondary education
A minimum of 2-4 years of experience as a Nursing Home Administrator leading a SNF
Must be able to relate positively and favorably with all residents, families and outside agencies and to work cooperatively with other associates
Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment exam if required
Must be capable of performing the essential job functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation
